Dress Makeover!

So I used a little of my time off this week to actually do something useful!! I started in on the alterations to the.... well PILE of dresses I have been meaning to fix. Amongst some easy fixes, such as removing shoulder pads and bringing up hem lines (who doesn't love a little leg?!) I also did some more major fixes:

On this daisy print light weight summer dress, I first cut off a huge section at the bottom. I am a very short girl!

But the real problem was the waist. So unflattering!
So I took the dress in at the sides a few inches, and then I made a belt with a section of the dress I had cut off at the bottom. A well defined waist is always flattering!!!
As soon as you understand how to use a sewing machine, personalizing dresses to your body is so simple! I remembered enough from home ec in 7th grade to start in on my own projects. Thrifting dresses that are too big but have a nice fabric is a great start. Even if you ruin a few along the way, you didn't invest a lot of money! The ones that do turn out will certainly make it worth it :)
